Twilight
03Nov11
Twilight is time between sunset and dusk when the earth’s surface is neither completely dark nor completely lit. The light is not provided by gu 10 light bulbs but by sunlight scattering in the upper atmosphere. Photographers and painters absolutely love twilight due to the distinctive ambient light during twilight, referring to it as “blue hour”.
In Hinduism, twilight is sacred, and is called “cow dust time”. Hindus believe that twilight is the ideal time for study and also for the performance of rituals such as Sandhyayandanam and Puja. The length of twilight is directly influenced by the observer’s latitude in the world. Twilight can last several hours in the Antarctic and Arctic regions whilst at the equator, twilight can last less than twenty minutes, day becoming night almost immediately. At low latitudes, the sun’s perceived movement is actually perpendicular to the observer’s horizon, whilst at the poles, the sun is closer towards the horizon and at a lower angle.
